Question 652 - The Enlightening Answer Across the Ether, Vol 7

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. They intended to liken her to Mary, the sister of Moses (a) and Aaron (a), since Mary, the sister of Aaron, was righteous and holy in their view. As for why they said, ‘sister of Aaron,’ and did not say, ‘sister of Moses (a),’ it was because Aaron was the elder, so she was attributed to him. Mary, the sister of Aaron and Moses (a), was mentioned in the Quran. The Exalted said: ‘And she said to his sister, “Follow him,” so she watched him from a distance while they were unaware. We had forbidden foster mothers to him before, so she said, “Shall I direct you to a household who will care for him for you and be sincere toward him?”’ [al-Qasas 28:11–12]. She was the cause of Moses being returned to his mother. Mary believed in Moses (a) and was courageous. She supported him, migrated with him, and endured much harm from the Children of Israel during the wandering with Moses (a) and Aaron (a). She died during the wandering before Aaron (a), and she was older than Moses and Aaron (a). Ahmed Alhasan
