Question 653
Peace be upon you, my master and guardian, the Riser of the family of Muhammad and their Yamani … Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, my brothers, the supporters of Allah. Allah, Glorious and Exalted, said in His decisive, noble Book: ‘O you who believe, if you are able to penetrate beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then penetrate; you will not penetrate except with an authority.’ What is the meaning of penetrating, how does it occur, and what is the authority? Sender: Abu Haydar - Iraq/Basra
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The verse is as follows: ‘O company of jinn and humans, if you are able to penetrate beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then penetrate; you will not penetrate except with an authority’ [al-Rahman 55:33]. That is, if you are able to penetrate through the boundaries of the heavens and the earth-the corporeal universe-you will not penetrate into an authority other than Allah’s authority. Wherever you move, you will be within the authority of Allah, Glorious is He: ‘You will not penetrate except with an authority.’ The use of the word ‘penetrate’ means that the boundaries of the universes are boundaries through which penetration is possible. But do not imagine that what lies beyond these regions and boundaries is something other than the authority and dominion of Allah, Glorious and Exalted. The Exalted said: ‘So which of your Lord’s favors will you both deny? A flame of fire and copper will be sent against you, and you will not prevail’ [al-Rahman 55:34–35]. ‘Will be sent against you’ is in the passive voice. The reason is that the sender of the fire and smoke is these very regions or boundaries; that is, they are generated spontaneously. In other words, the boundaries or regions of these universes through which penetration is possible are filled with fire (energy) and copper (smoke). This means that the boundaries of these universes-the heavens and the earth-are not still, but moving and turbulent. A natural result of their turbulence is the occurrence of collisions and explosions that generate fire, heat, and smoke. The natural result of this is the condensation of these energies, and consequently corporeal matter as we know it in our world, or other forms in another world, may be formed, causing obstruction and preventing penetration. Thus: ‘and you will not prevail.’
