Question 658

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. My master, the successor and messenger of Imam al-Mahdi-may Allah establish him in the earth-I have come to an understanding of the blessed verse, ‘If an ungodly person comes to you with news, then verify it’: that the news is the divine authority, since the Great News is the Commander of the Believers (a), and he is the guardian of Allah; and that ‘the ungodly person’ is an allusion to the proof, the vicegerent, or the one sent, since their peoples described them in this way, as mentioned in the Quran-for example, their saying of the Prophet (s) that he was a liar, taught by another, mad, and so on … Bestow upon us from your light, and supplicate that we be granted success. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. May Allah grant you success and direct your steps to every good. The verse makes clear to the rational person that sound and balanced thinking requires him to consider what was said, not who said it. An ungodly person, a liar, or one who is astray can convey the truth, just as a truthful believer can make a mistake and convey something incorrectly. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
