Question 675
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful … Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, my guardian … O Allah, send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis … In the Messenger of Allah’s sermon in Ramadan, may my Lord’s prayers be upon him, he says: ‘The satans are shackled, so ask your Lord not to give them authority over you.’ If the satans are shackled in the month of Ramadan, then how does a human being commit acts of disobedience in Ramadan? We see much corruption, insolence toward Allah, deliberate breaking of the fast, and other things. May Allah protect you, direct you aright, and establish you in the near future. Indeed, He is Hearing and Responsive. Sender: al-Narjis - Bahrain
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. If the satans among the jinn are shackled in the month of Ramadan, this does not mean that the satans among humankind are shackled, nor does it mean that a human being has become an angel. Rather, he is a human being, and there is darkness on the page of his existence. At times, the motive for disobedience is the satans among the jinn-the devils-or the satans among humankind, and at times it is the human being’s own self and the darkness within it. Some human souls are more wicked than the satans among the jinn. One who spent his life before Ramadan in heedlessness until darkness overcame his self may derive no benefit at all from Ramadan. In general, you can regard the shackling of the satans in Ramadan as an honor, assistance, and divine aid for one who seeks repentance and ascent in the Kingdom of the Heavens. It is a good opportunity for one who wants to make use of it and change his life and his outcome in the Hereafter for the better. You can learn further details by reading The Striving: The Gate of Paradise and other books in which I have explained these matters.
