Question 681

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Recently, the phenomenon of spiritual treatment for the effects of jinn and the like has become widespread, especially among women. Some healers treat women in locked or closed rooms and prevent anyone from entering with them, even though the healer is not a close unmarriageable relative of the woman, claiming that the treatment depends upon being alone with the patient. The questions are: What is the religious ruling concerning such seclusion with women, and is there a difference between a trustworthy person and another? Is there really any spiritual treatment that depends upon being alone with the patient? Is it permissible for the man-the healer-to touch the body of an unrelated woman, without a barrier or with one, under the pretext of treatment? Finally, is there any advice you would give the believers to close the points of entry of the accursed Iblis? Abu Zahraʾ - Maysan

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

A1: This is impermissible and forbidden seclusion, and there is no difference between a trustworthy person and another. A2: There is no need to be alone with the patient. A3: It is not permissible, and this is a forbidden act. As for my advice, it is that the believers avoid forbidden seclusion, because it is one of Satan’s gates. Do not approach it; may Allah have mercy upon you.
