Question 691

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Is it permissible to place girls or boys in mixed schools, given that separate schools exist but have a lower standard of education, instruction, and care for the student? Zaynab - United Arab Emirates

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. There is no problem in primary school-that is, the first six years. As for secondary school, and the adolescent years in particular, it is better to avoid this matter as much as possible.
