Question 702

Is it permissible to sing children’s songs to newborn children? O Allah, send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, my father. I ask Allah that you, your blessed family, and all believing men and women are well and in good health, Allah willing, and that He direct you aright with a manifest victory, Allah willing. Is it permissible to sing children’s songs to newborn children, or to children in general? Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Nurhan al-Qurash - Egypt

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Songs accompanied by music are generally impermissible. But if you mean mothers’ lullabies to children, there is no problem with them.
