Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. A father may strike a child after the age of seven for discipline, provided the striking is not injurious, is not upon an area where it may cause the child harm-such as the head-is not repeated, and the father has used and exhausted every means of threatening deprivation of things the child loves and every means of encouragement, such as promising to purchase things the child loves or purchasing them for him, in an attempt to correct the child’s error. In general, it is better to refrain from striking. A teacher may not strike a child.
