Question 736
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon the oppressed Ahmed. My master and guardian, I write these words to you while my heart drips blood. Words cannot express what goes on within my heart. Instead of offering you ourselves and our children as a sacrifice for you and your great cause, I send you a letter in which I do not know what to write from shame and reversal. Allah is witness to what I say. Today I discovered that my fourteen-year-old son twice had sex with a boy his own age after they watched a pornographic film online. That boy proposed it to my son, and my son complied, so they committed that ugly, disgraceful act together. I do not know what to do. What is his ruling? Do I apply the religious penalty to him? What do I do? How do I make him abandon this matter, if he is permitted to live? My master, by Allah, I am ashamed to write these words, but you are my refuge and I have no guide other than you in this world and the Hereafter. My master, help me, my master.
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Set your children aright-may Allah set you aright-by teaching them the Quran, prayer, fasting, and the remembrance of Allah. Relate to them the stories of the prophets, successors, righteous men, and righteous women, so that they take them as examples and follow their path. Do not neglect your children while they are amid the darkness of this earth. Teach them Allah’s religion and its limits so that they do not become prey for Satan. Do not leave them with the internet, television, or any means capable of conveying corruption without supervision. One who commits indecent acts should be corrected, guided, and have his conduct and actions monitored. As for carrying out the prescribed penalty upon a person who committed indecency, this matter belongs to Allah’s proof over His creation. Judgment over Allah’s creation belongs to him if they establish him over their government and the implementation of Allah’s law among them. I ask Allah to conceal you with His concealment and set your sons and daughters aright.
