Question 744

Am I permitted to use khums and collect khums for calling to your call and to the teachings of the Household (a) here in Malaysia? If this is permitted, what proportion am I allowed to use for the call? What proportion should I return to you? What proportion may I use to assist the supporters? Sender: Your weak servant Muntazar - Malaysia

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

It is permissible to spend khums upon calling to Allah’s true religion and assisting the believers-may Allah protect them. As for receiving khums and religious dues and spending them, you can organize a public treasury for the supporters specific to Malaysia, with you responsible for it, or one of your believing brothers whom you regard as suitable for this matter. There is no specified proportion for spending from khums and religious dues. Rather, you may spend everything that enters your public treasury. You can also communicate with the general public treasury of the supporters to deliver to them anything beyond your needs, if there is a surplus, so that they may deliver it to those who need it in the rest of the world’s countries. May Allah grant you success and direct your steps aright. Ahmed Alhasan
