Question 760

Does kohl affect ablution? Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, my master and guardian Ahmed. May Allah soon establish you in His earth, and may peace be upon all the noble supporters. Question: What is the ruling concerning kohl, whether liquid or dry? Is it permissible to perform ablution with it? What is the ruling concerning a woman who applies kohl and spends a long time removing it, such that she may miss the prayer and perform it later because of this? She exhausts herself to ensure she does not find a very tiny spot that is scarcely visible except with intense concentration, and her eye becomes red and painful. What is the ruling concerning kohl inside the eyelid-where the upper and lower eyelids meet? Must it be removed for ablution? Excuse us, my master, for our shortcomings in the cause of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and in your right. May Allah reward you with good and soon support you with His victory. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. Kohl, whether liquid or dry, does not affect the validity of ablution unless it extends beyond the eyelash area in an immoderate manner. If kohl is applied in the natural manner, it need not be removed for ablution.
