Question 761

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Peace be upon you, O family of Muhammad. I ask Allah to establish you, O beloved of our hearts and light of our eyes, my master and guardian Ahmed. A question, my master-and you know best. If you answer, you are the most generous of the generous; if you leave the answer, you know best the benefit and what sets us aright, and we submit to your command. Is exchanging greetings and handshakes after prayer from the Sunnah, an innovation, or something else, my master and guardian? I ask Allah to establish you, O family of Muhammad. I hope for an answer from my master and guardian Ahmed. Sender: Abu Zayn al-Abidin - Basra

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. In general, shaking hands with a believer and supplicating for him are recommended, especially when performing acts of obedience such as fasting, prayer, and visiting Allah’s allies. For this reason, after the believing worshippers complete the prayer, it is recommended to shake hands with those on the worshipper’s right and left, seek blessing through shaking their hands, and supplicate that their deeds be accepted.
