Question 763

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Is it permissible for men to wear a necklace? Some brothers said it is not permissible because it resembles women. Is this correct? May Allah reward you with good. Sender: Ardijan - United States of America

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. It is permissible for men to wear a necklace. If a man wants to wear a necklace, it is recommended that it be made of silver or stone and that the remembrance of Allah or a verse of the Quran be inscribed upon it. It is recommended for a woman to wear a gold necklace upon which the remembrance of Allah or a verse of the Quran is inscribed.
