Question 762

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. I want to emigrate from Switzerland to Egypt. What do I have in Switzerland? My mother, brother, wife, children, a rented apartment, and permanent employment. What do I have in Egypt? A community of supporters of Allah whom I know and love, who teach me much, better than the place where I presently reside; a place where I can live and practice my religion with fewer obstacles than I presently face; and some savings from which I can live for a certain period, Allah willing, and praise be to Allah. I can also purchase an apartment or house in Egypt. I can be in a better place more pleasing to Allah. Allah knows. In my present situation, I am concerned about whether I may emigrate because my knowledge and understanding of the rulings of Islam are limited. What if my wife or mother, for example, oppose my moving and my reason for leaving? Do they have a right over me? Or if my wife says to me, ‘Go alone; I will not follow you. Here my children have their schools, and my husband has his work, but in Egypt I do not know whether we will have all that,’ meaning I would have to leave my children with her-must I remain with her and be patient? What are my duties toward my wife and children if I divorce her and go alone to Egypt? Must I provide for their needs? May Allah bless you for making these matters clear to me, Allah willing. O Allah, send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. Sender: Jibraʾil - Switzerland

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. It is better for you now to remain in the country where you are-Switzerland-and learn your religion through reading and seeking the assistance of your believing brothers online, or by traveling to them and spending a holiday with them when you have the opportunity. Little by little, Allah willing, you will know your true religion in detail. I am Allah’s servant, your brother, your friend, and the servant of all of you, the supporters of Allah-may Allah grant you success. I did not come to demolish people’s homes and social relationships; rather, I came to build the human being and make his reality known to him, if he desires knowledge, so that he may reach Allah and be Allah’s messenger and ambassador among His creation. What I ask of you during this period is that you learn the true religion and be Allah’s messengers to your relatives and societies. I ask you to preserve your families and children, raise them with a correct divine upbringing, teach them the remembrance and obedience of Allah, Glorious is He, and teach them to adopt divine character. Know that marriage, building a family, maintaining a cohesive relationship between spouses, and having love and affection prevail are matters Allah wants, because they lead to protecting human society from moral corruption. As for celibacy, divorce, demolishing the family, and having a cold or tense relationship between spouses, these are matters Allah does not want, because they lead to morally demolishing human society and spreading corruption in the earth. O believers, therefore, initiate beneficence, mercy, affection, and good words toward your wives. May Allah grant you success.
