Question 770
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. May prayers and peace be upon our master Muhammad and his good and pure family, the Imams and the Mahdis. Recently, there has been much discussion of this film that insults the Noble Messenger (s). What is the ruling concerning watching such films that depict the prophets and the Household, whether these works depict their lives and role in guiding the nations or insult them (a)? Sender: Abu Shu‘ayb al-Ansari - Morocco
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. There is no problem with depicting those protected from error if it contains no disparagement of them or lie against them, especially if the film shows the goodness of their deeds and words and urges the people to believe in them. As for films that insult them, it is better to refrain from watching them except when necessary, such as to respond to them or adopt a position based upon their content.
