Question 769
My master, excuse me for this question, but I want to understand. Must the children of the supporters who reach puberty perform the ritual bath of repentance? I have a daughter who has entered her eighth year; must she perform the ritual bath of repentance? Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Sender: Hadi (Abu Hasan) - Iraq
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. A child who has not reached puberty is not obligated to perform acts of worship. After puberty, the person must perform the obligations, such as prayer, fasting, and obligatory ritual baths. As for the ritual bath of repentance, it is for one who did not know the truth and then came to know it. It is not obligatory for a child merely because he reaches puberty.
