Question 782
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May Allah send abundant prayers and peace upon the best of His creation, Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis. Peace be upon you, O Riser of the family of Muhammad and their Yamani, descendant of the pure progeny. Peace be upon you, O Household of prophethood, source of the message, and place where revelation and the sending down descended, O proof of Allah and son of His proof. Noble Sayyid, a person who has not yet believed in the call asked me to deliver this question to you. He wants the scientific evidence, through your answer to his question, to be his proof for believing in the blessed call. I convey his words exactly, without addition: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: ‘In a day whose measure is one thousand years of what you count.’ Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent, has spoken the truth. Modern science has established the existence of a planet upon which one day equals one thousand years of earthly time. Question: If the accountable person were upon the surface of this planet where one day equals one thousand years, how would he perform prayer? Would he pray or not, since the period from dawn to noon would be more than approximately four hundred years and another three hundred years to sunset? How would he perform prayer? Would it be shortened or complete? In which direction would he face for the qiblah? Would he fast, and how would his fasting be, given that he does not know the time but knows that the month of fasting has arrived? This is the question. May you receive reward; give us a ruling and be rewarded. Sender: Alaʾ Husayn - Iraq
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. When there are accountable beings upon other planets in the vast universe, Allah, Glorious is He, who sent messengers to the people of the earth, sends them messengers who make known to them their obligations and acts of worship. Their acts of worship may share nothing with the acts of worship of the earth except that they are remembrance of Allah and striving to know Him, Glorious is He.
