Question 792

Peace be upon you, my master and guardian Imam Ahmed Alhasan. O Allah, send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. Some banks here in Saudi Arabia offer a card upon which the bank places a monetary balance. It is given to the person who wants it, and he repays each month. If more than fifty days pass after he uses the amount from the card, interest is charged to him. What is the ruling concerning using this card? Thank you.

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. According to the stated supposition, there is no problem with it-that is, if the basic arrangement is that no interest is charged, and interest is calculated only after repayment is delayed beyond the specified due date. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
