Question 795
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. May prayers and peace be upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. Greetings and peace be upon the Riser of the family of Muhammad. The tamattu pilgrimage in Iran is arranged as follows: you pay 1,000,000 rials and remain waiting until your name comes up. Years pass before the name comes up and is announced so that the person can go for the pilgrimage. When the name comes up, the state adds 7,000,000 rials to the first amount paid, describing it as profit upon the 1,000,000 rials first deposited. The person then pays the remainder when his name is announced for the pilgrimage. The question: Is the 7,000,000-rial amount paid as profit upon the amount deposited with them lawful or forbidden? Sender: Abd al-Rida al-Humaydi
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. In the mentioned situation, it is permissible to take the amount. As for money held by governments ruling Islamic countries, it either belongs to the Imam (a) or to the general body of Muslims.
