Question 813

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Praise be to Allah who, through our brothers, opened for us this nearby door to the Qaʾim of the family of Muhammad (may Allah send prayers upon him and his family), and may Allah reward them with the best reward of the doers of good. I saw-seeking refuge in Allah from the ego-as though I were carrying milk to a group of people. I do not remember whether they were supporters. I gave the milk to one so he could pour it into his container, which was a bottle. The person began pouring the milk into it as though wasting it upon the ground, so I insisted on pouring it for him myself and did so. They were supposed to pay me its price, estimated at 25 dirhams. They began delaying and drawing me into side conversations, intending that I forget the price and leave, but I insisted and took the price from them. I went away, opened my hand, and found only five dirhams. I searched for the rest and found the twenty-dirham note upon the ground, so I picked it up and left. A second time, the twenty-dirham note flew from me onto a somewhat high wall. I wanted to climb the wall. It was raining and the wall seemed to be crumbling; whenever I placed one hand on a side it slipped, so I placed the other until I retrieved the note. When I descended, I found yellow paint on my clothes. The vision ended, and praise be to Allah. Sender: Your servant Shafiq - Morocco

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The milk is knowledge, and its price means good deeds you obtain from the believers and those seeking the truth, because you benefited them by conveying this knowledge or facilitating its conveyance and acquisition. Your obtaining the money with difficulty means that you may have followed your good deed with some reminder of your favor and harm. This shortcoming on your part would have caused a reduction in your reward and good deeds, but Allah had mercy upon you and reduced none of your reward. Part of the money falling or flying from you expresses this same first matter: the loss of the greater part of your good deeds and your retrieving it with difficulty-that is, its return to you for a reason such as fighting your ego and compelling it to do what it dislikes, such as accepting an opinion contrary to yours or apologizing for a mistake. As for the color on your clothes, it is an inevitable result of the mistake and apologizing for it. It is better to avoid wronging others even slightly. Indeed, even if they wrong you, do not wrong them, so that you need not apologize and stain your clothes. Meet the one who mistreats you with good, and treat people gently and well-may Allah have mercy upon you: ‘O you who believe, do not invalidate your charities through reminders of your favor and harm.’
