Question 816

Peace be upon you, my master and guardian. Years ago I saw that I was in a lecture hall at the College of Engineering. Suddenly the professor approached and whispered in my ear: ‘A greeting from Imam al-Mahdi to you in particular.’ I said, ‘Why me specifically?’ The professor said, ‘I will confide a secret to you; do not disclose it to anyone: the Mahdi (peace be upon him) is present within you.’ I said, ‘Am I the Imam?’ The man said, ‘Do not be surprised; the Mahdi is present everywhere.’ What is the interpretation of this strange vision? Sender: Ali - Baghdad, Iraq

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. I ask Allah to grant you well-being and have mercy upon you. ‘The Mahdi is present within you’ means that you will be guided to follow him, keep to his path, support him, and apply what he says. ‘The Mahdi is present everywhere’ means that recognition of truth and guidance is implanted in the human being and lies within his innate nature: ‘Then He inspired it with its wickedness and its God-consciousness’ [al-Shams 91:8].
