Question 842
Provide proof from the Quran for the twelve Imams and twelve Mahdis-an interpretation agreeing with the Arabic language, reason, logic, and the consensus of Muhammad’s nation, given its superiority over other nations. Abu Ammar al-Misri - Alexandria
Scientific Committee Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The nation of Muhammad (may Allah send prayers upon him and his family) that has superiority over other nations is the nation Allah, Majestic and Most High, described: ‘That is the Book in which there is no doubt, guidance for the God-conscious, who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend from what We have provided them, and who believe in what was sent down to you and what was sent down before you, and are certain of the Hereafter’ [al-Baqarah 2:2–4]. Muhammad’s nation is not whoever merely claims affiliation with it without acting according to the Messenger’s Sunnah. It is as though you have not read Allah’s saying: ‘Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; whatever he forbids you, refrain from it’ [al-Hashr 59:7]. If proof of the twelve Imams and twelve Mahdis comes from the Sunnah, will you reject it? It is as though you have not heard the Messenger’s statement narrated by Abu Hurayrah: ‘Let me not find one of you reclining upon his couch when a hadith from me reaches him, saying, “Recite Quran concerning it to me.” Whatever good reaches you from me, whether I said it or not, I say it; whatever evil reaches you, I do not say evil’ ([87]). The Messenger also commanded his nation, so it would not go astray, to adhere to the Quran and the pure progeny (peace be upon them). He did not command adherence to what you presume and name the Arabic language, reason, logic, and the consensus of Muhammad’s nation. Where is this consensus you claim, when today the nation is divided into sects, creeds, and denominations? You appear unaware even of the general outline of Islamic history: the nation consists of creeds and denominations and has no consensus on even the simplest matters; indeed, this alleged consensus cannot be found even among adherents of one school. From where, then, comes this claim supported only by desire and nothing else?! Read what the Messenger of Allah instructed you, if you are as you claim among Muhammad’s nation: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah during his pilgrimage on the Day of Arafah, upon his she-camel al-Qaswaʾ, delivering a sermon. I heard him say: “O people, I have left among you that which, if you take hold of it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and my progeny, my Ahl al-Bayt.”’ Your scholar al-Albani judges the hadith ‘and my progeny, my Ahl al-Bayt’ authentic. There is no such thing there as the Arabic language, logic, what you called reason, or consensus. Do you profess religion before Allah according to desire and opinion, like the religion of Iblis-may Allah curse him-or according to the religion of His beloved Muhammad, who commanded the nation to adhere to the Quran and progeny, not one without the other? Whoever acts contrary to the Messenger’s command resembles those Allah described: ‘Those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers, wish to separate Allah from His messengers, and say, “We believe in some and disbelieve in some,” wishing to take a path between that’ [al-Nisaʾ 4:150]. Whoever says, ‘I rely only on what came in the Quran,’ is among those who separate Allah’s saying from His Messenger’s saying. We seek refuge in Allah from that condition and those described by it. If you seek the truth, I invite you to investigate, read, and scrutinize, and not allow the religion of the forefathers to determine your Hereafter. I invite you to visit the website of the supporters of Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) to review the Call’s evidence: http://vb.al-mehdyoon.org/ Praise be to Allah alone, alone, alone.
