Question 843

Who is your Lord, O Imam? Do you support fighting falsehood by bearing arms? How will Imam al-Mahdi change the world when the announcement at the top of the website says the Mahdi has been born, meaning he did not previously exist?! Then who was managing the world while the guide did not exist? Please answer these questions with complete candor. Thank you and much appreciation. Ali al-Abadi - Vinnytsia, Ukraine

Scientific Committee Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. His Lord is Allah, besides whom there is no god: the One, the Unique, the Solitary, the Eternally Besought, who neither begets nor is born. What escapes people’s attention today is that reform is reform of souls, not bodies. The narrations mentioning the battles of killing undertaken by the Mahdi (peace be upon him) may be referring to his killing corrupt doctrine within people’s souls and calling them to sound doctrine. He fights the tyrant at the intellectual-doctrinal and material levels. Material war against the tyrant may be the last thing the Mahdi undertakes, but as we see today he fights the tyrant’s corrupt doctrine by calling people to what sets them right and saves them from Allah’s wrath and punishment. The weapon he carries to fight falsehood is knowledge, wisdom, and gracious invitation. The Mahdi is sent as mercy to people and a path for their deliverance from the tyrant’s authority, which has destroyed cultivation and progeny, by calling people to the truth and explaining it through clear divine proofs and demonstrations, so that whoever lives may live upon evidence and whoever perishes may perish upon evidence. The Mahdi whose appearance we announce is the Mahdi whose birth at the end time the Messenger of Allah announced. He is the Yamani who prepares for the appearance of his father, Imam al-Mahdi Muhammad ibn al-Hasan (peace be upon him). Thus the Mahdi to whom we call you today is Allah’s unifying common word for Muslims and all the earth’s people upon the word of truth, justice, truthfulness, and mercy. You must know the earth is never devoid of Allah’s Proof, whether manifest and renowned or hidden and obscure. His concealment results from people turning away and conspiring against him. Because Allah’s mercy toward the servants is tremendous, He does not leave the earth without him lest it perish, but conceals him from people’s sight. Through his patience and their turning away, Allah has a conclusive proof against the people, while they have no proof against Allah, Glorious is He. As for his management of the world, that is his affair and he knows it best; people should not ask about what does not concern them.
