Question 35
A person saw semen on a garment, performed ghusl al-janabah, and prayed relying on that ghusl as sufficient in place of wudu. He later discovered that the garment was not his. What is the ruling on the prayer he performed without wudu?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
If he intended his ghusl only for janabah, then his state of purification is invalid and so is his prayer. If, together with the mistakenly assumed ghusl of janabah, he also intended the ghusl of repentance, gratitude, or another ghusl, then his purification is valid and his prayer is also valid.
