Question 21

If there is doubt about whether a toilet was built facing the qibla, what should a person do? Must the direction be checked?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

It is forbidden to face the qibla or turn one's back to it while relieving oneself, and one must turn away in a place built facing the qibla or with one's back toward it. Therefore, a believer should determine the direction of the qibla before relieving oneself in order to avoid what is forbidden.
