Question 20
What is the human awrah that must be covered, for men and for women?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
What a woman may show before non-mahrams is the face, the hands, and the feet. What a woman may show before her mahrams is the necklace area and above, what she needs to uncover from her arms for wudu, and from the middle of the lower leg downward. Her husband may see her entire body. A man is required to cover the front and back private parts from another man and from a woman, although it is better to cover what is between the navel and the knee. A woman is required to cover the front and back private parts from another woman, although it is better to cover the breasts and what is below them down to the knees. A woman covers before a discerning boy what she covers before her mahrams.
