Question 86
Is it permissible to financially help a poor person who does not pray or fast and does not believe in the blessed call? Is there reward in helping such a person, whether for himself or for his children? Is there a difference between relatives and non-relatives?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
A non-believer may be helped financially. As for reward, yes: there is reward for every living being in distress, for example if he needs food. His children may also be helped. Relatives must not be cut off, and it is better to help them even if they are not believers. If you must choose between helping a non-believer and helping a believer, choosing to help the believer is better.
