Question 79
Is installment-based dealing permissible when an amount greater than the known price of the item is charged because payment is spread over a specified or unspecified period? Is there any difference in this matter between dealings among the Ansar and dealings with others?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Taking a financial increase because payment of all or part of the price arising from the purchase of a specific item is delayed is prohibited riba. Riba applies between believers, or between a believer and a Muslim who professes love for Muhammad and the family of Muhammad—the Imams and the Mahdis. There is no riba between a believer and a nasibi, or between a believer and a non-Muslim.
