Question 46

I vowed that if my children succeeded in school with good marks I would take them to visit the shrine of one of the descendants of the Imams, and I also vowed to distribute a particular thing. Praise be to God, my wish was fulfilled, but I have moved elsewhere and can no longer reach that shrine at all. What should I do? Does the vow remain in my liability if God takes my life?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

If reaching that place is temporarily impossible because of circumstances that may later end, the vow must be fulfilled when those circumstances cease. But if fulfilling the vow is permanently impossible, as the question states, there is no problem when you are unable to fulfill it. It is nevertheless recommended to fulfill the vow by visiting one of the infallible ones.
