Question 45

A woman vowed to fast for a month if a certain matter was fulfilled. It has now been fulfilled, but her husband does not accept that she fast in fulfillment of her vow. What is the ruling?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

If the vow could take away some of a believing husband's rights—such as a vow to fast, perform Hajj, make a pilgrimage visit or the like—the woman's vow is not valid unless her husband permitted it.
