Question 83
You said that cannabis and hashish are forbidden unless the purpose is medical or industrial. In some countries, including the United States and European countries, cannabis is used to treat cancer, ADHD, OCD and many other illnesses, and some doctors prefer it to other medicines. What should a patient do if a doctor has diagnosed one of these illnesses but using cannabis is illegal in the country where the patient lives? May the patient obtain and use it for medical purposes? Also, may a person diagnose himself with such an illness without seeing a doctor?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
These substances may not be used except with a prescription from a specialist physician. Continuing to take such medication also requires medical supervision.
