What is the ruling on wearing the jambiya-a dagger worn at the waist as an adornment in Yemeni and Omani custom-if it is decorated with gold coins and its handle is made from the horn of an animal such as a rhinoceros?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
There is no problem with wearing this dagger. The problem is hunting and killing animals-especially endangered animals such as rhinoceroses-in order to use their horns. This is wrong, and the hunters and traders who do this should not be encouraged by purchasing the horns and ivory they obtain.
