Question 39
What is the ruling if my father does not want to speak to me and is angry with me, and I do not know whether he wants to disown me because he learned that I follow the Shia school while he is Sunni?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Treat your father well and try to please him in matters that do not harm your religion. God, the Exalted, says: 'But if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, but accompany them in this world with kindness, and follow the way of one who turns to Me. Then to Me is your return, and I will inform you of what you used to do' (Quran 31:15).
