Question 38

What is the meaning of the hadith in which the Messenger of God says: 'Whoever has two wives and does not deal justly between them in the division of himself and his wealth will come on the Day of Resurrection shackled and with his side inclined until he enters the Fire' (Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 7, p. 214)? Can any man who is not infallible divide himself, his wealth, and his love between two wives with justice?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

May God grant you success. Justice between wives concerns their obligatory rights, such as the division of nights or staying overnight with the wife and the obligatory maintenance.
