The Laws of Islam says that if a person breaks a fast he vowed to perform at a specifically designated time, he must make it up and offer a major discretionary expiation. What does a specifically designated vowed fast mean?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
It means that he vowed to fast at a particular time, such as specific days in a specific month of a specific year.
