Question 60
The eldest son must make up the prayers and fasts missed by his parents. May someone else help him, and if another person volunteers to make them up, is the eldest son sinful?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
The Laws of Islam says that if someone volunteers to make them up, the obligation falls. Thus, if one or more people volunteer to perform the make-up, the obligation falls from the eldest son. If they volunteer without negligence on his part, he is not sinful. If he had neglected what was owed on behalf of his parents, he is sinful.
