Question 33
A passage in Al-Shara'i caught my attention: ‘Fasting is invalidated by what reaches the internal cavity through a route other than the throat, except injection of a liquid.’ Al-Shara'i elsewhere lists a liquid enema among things that break the fast. Why is injection excepted in this statement?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
The injection meant here is an intramuscular or intravenous injection. The liquid injection that breaks the fast means a rectal enema. In this passage, ‘injection’ refers to injecting a needle into a vein or muscle, because this too can reach the internal cavity.
