Peace be upon those who follow guidance. I received your message in which you advised me to read The Decisive Response. I examined it but found nothing new in it; it consists only of hadiths that admit interpretation and include general and allegorical matters whose people are the scholars specialized in the sciences of narrators and hadith evaluation. I direct you to a book entitled The Claim of Deputyship during the Major Occultation by Sheikh Muhammad al-Sanad; in it is what every fair-minded person seeks. I now cite for you the rescript from the Sacred Precinct-upon it be thousands of greetings: ‘In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Ali ibn Muhammad al-Samari, may Allah magnify the reward of your brothers concerning you. You will die between now and six days. Put your affairs in order and do not appoint anyone to take your place after your death. The second, complete occultation has occurred, and there will be no appearance except after Allah, Mighty and Majestic, gives permission, after a long period, the hardening of hearts, and the earth being filled with injustice. Some will come to my Shia claiming direct witnessing. Indeed, whoever claims direct witnessing before the emergence of al-Sufyani and the Cry is a lying fabricator. There is no power or strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Almighty …’ (^[67]). In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah for His trial and His immense blessings. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. To Brother Muhammad al-Uqabi: I ask Allah to grant you success in proceeding deliberately and investigating this true cause carefully, and that Allah not make you among those who deny without evidence, whom He condemned in His words: ‘Rather, they denied what they did not encompass in knowledge’ (^[68]). As for what you mentioned regarding The Decisive Response, it is a study establishing that Imam al-Mahdi (a) has progeny; it is not specifically concerned with establishing the possibility of seeing Imam al-Mahdi (a) during the Major Occultation. I examined the issue of the possibility of seeing the Imam in The Crushing Response to Those Who Deny Seeing the Qa’im. In it I discussed the Rescript to al-Samari and other matters and established the possibility of seeing the Imam (a) during the Major Occultation. Please review this book carefully, for in it is what you seek, Allah willing. I also advise the brother to examine all the publications of the cause and reflect upon them carefully, and to beseech Allah the Exalted in seeking guidance to the truth concerning which there is disagreement.
