Question 45

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers, Muhammad ibn Abdullah, with the best prayers and fullest peace. To proceed: To the claimant who says he sees the Awaited Mahdi, knowledge of whom is with Allah, Glorious and Exalted, while no clear indications or conclusive proofs establishing his appearance have appeared-especially when we are amid a great revolution in wired and wireless communications and modern recording technology, which enables anyone claiming to see him to record his conversation with him in sound and image: I ask you by Allah, who created everything and made every difficult matter easy, to return to sound judgment, abandon hypocrisy and the spreading of tribulation and division among Muslims, cease giving opinions to the misguided among jinn and humans permitting their misguidance, and cease claiming that you will intercede for them when the true Awaited Mahdi appears. This is a warning to you, and it is the final warning. If you do not cease displaying faith while concealing disbelief, I swear by Allah, besides whom there is no god, that I will kill you with my sword, O eloquent-tongued hypocrite who uses magic to lead people astray. Know that your location is known and fixed by my special apparatuses, however much you try to hide. Allah is the guide to the straight path. Saudi Arabia The one holding fast to the rope of Allah, Hamad ibn Hasan ibn Zayid Al Malhan 30 Rabi al-Thani 1426 AH

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. You claim to hold fast to the rope of Allah, and the rope of Allah is the Quran. In the Quran is a verse which, had you read it, would have caused you to proceed much more deliberately. The Exalted said: ‘Rather, they denied what they did not encompass in knowledge and whose interpretation had not yet come to them. Thus those before them denied. See, then, how was the end of the wrongdoers’ ([109]). With what proof and what knowledge do you accuse me of lying and hypocrisy? In the Quran is a verse which, had you read it, would have kept you from thundering, swearing, and threatening. The Exalted said: ‘Had he attributed to Us some statements, We would have seized him by the right hand, then cut from him the life-vein’ ([110]). Imam al-Sadiq (a) said: ‘No one other than its possessor claims this matter except that Allah cuts short his life’ ([111]). In the Quran is a verse which, had you read it, would have kept you from accusing me of magic. The Exalted said: ‘Likewise, no messenger came to those before them except that they said, “A sorcerer or a madman”’ ([112]). Then I say to you: one such as me fears and hopes in none but Allah and through Allah, Glorious and Exalted. I have in my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (s), an example when the disbelievers of Quraysh wanted to kill him. I have in my grandfather al-Husayn (a) an example when he was slaughtered from vein to vein. Finally, I will not close the door in your face. Rather, I invite you to beseech Allah and ask Him for knowledge of the truth concerning which there is disagreement, and knowledge of the reality of my affair from the Knower of the secret and what is yet more hidden, Glorious and Exalted. Recite this supplication-the specific supplication for a vision mentioned previously in the answer to Question 14. Ahmed Alhasan Jumada al-Awwal 1426 AH
