Question 46
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan, peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. My honorable master, I do not know how to begin, but I have become accustomed to speaking frankly with you. I mentioned to a friend of mine, who is dear to my heart, the cause you have brought and that you can perform the miracles brought by the prophets. My friend has, of course, been disabled since childhood. He has suffered from polio for approximately more than thirty years. He has a fair degree of education and religious awareness. His disability resulted from an injection administered by mistake, which caused his paralysis while he was still an infant. The important point is that when he heard about you, glimmers of hope in Allah the Exalted opened for him. His father and most of his household told him that if Ahmed Alhasan could heal him, they would all become his servants and obey him, because medicine has despaired of treating his hand and they say there is no treatment for it. I, in turn, know a fair number of people from the religious community and have what might be called many connections. We told him that if his hand were healed at the hands of Sayyid al-Hasan, we would all believe with him, enter the cause, and be among the supporters chosen by the infallible Imam. What is your answer, my master? Give us your ruling and be rewarded. May Allah reward you with the best reward of the doers of good. Abu Maryam Haydar - Basra 30 Rabi al-Thani 1426 AH
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Brother Abu Maryam, faith cannot come through compulsion, for that would eliminate the reason for our coming to this physical world: examination and sifting. If every prophet went around healing the sick and raising the dead, leaving no room for ambiguity, all people would believe him-but their belief would be forced upon them. Jesus (a) healed and raised some of those who believed in him so that it would be a sign by which the believers increased in certainty; it only increased the disbelievers in disbelief, obstinacy, and denial of him and of those with whom those signs occurred. Ask yourself, and let this person ask himself: does he want to follow the truth, or does he want to be healed? If he wants to follow the truth and is aware, as you say, the latest declaration-the Declaration of the Yamani ([113])-is sufficient for him. The thousands of visions seen by a very large number of people are sufficient for him. The healing of sick people among the Supporters is sufficient for him. Some had cancer and their cases were considered hopeless; one such person is present now, his medical reports exist, and he testifies before Allah that he was healed because of his belief in this true call ([114]). There is one Supporter afflicted with polio who remains disabled. He has believed in the call since the era of the tyrant Saddam, is devoted and sincere, and strives in this call with his money, his disabled body, and everything he can. He possesses complete certainty, and I have never heard him say that he wants healing as a reward for his efforts. You want the reward in this worldly life, even before the work and before belief. Ahmed Alhasan Jumada al-Awwal 1426 AH

↑ [113] This is the declaration issued on 21 Rabi al-Thani 1326 AH. It is a question seeking clarification of the boundaries of the Yamani’s personage (a), and it can be found in The Allegories, Vol 4.
↑ [114] See Miracles and Matters of the Unseen, one of the publications of the Supporters of Imam al-Mahdi (a). It mentions a little from the abundance of miracles Allah bestowed upon the Supporters of Imam Ahmed Alhasan-may my soul be his ransom.
