Question 52

What is the interpretation of the noble verse: ‘Allah has certainly fulfilled His messenger’s vision in truth: you will surely enter the Sacred Mosque, Allah willing, secure, with your heads shaved and hair shortened, without fear. He knew what you did not know and granted, before that, a near victory’ ([4])? Sender: Ibrahim Rughayl

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. This verse makes clear that the vision is from Allah, Glorious and Exalted, and it will be fulfilled, Allah willing, even after a time. None deny it but the oppressors. What Allah promised His messenger in the vision was fulfilled: Mecca was conquered, even after a time, and Khaybar was conquered, which is the near victory. The Quran is living and runs its course as the sun and the moon do ([5]), and this is the time for this verse to be fulfilled once again, Allah willing. As for its inward meaning, the near victory is the manifest opening that occurred for the Messenger of Allah (s). I have explained it in more than one place in Al-Fatiha and The Allegories, so refer to them. The path to the manifest opening is open to every person who wishes to strive toward Allah through the guardian of Allah and His Proof over His creation. The Sacred Mosque is therefore the guardian of Allah, and the believers enter it, Allah willing, secure and with their heads shaved-that is, they have no thought or opinion alongside his word, but submit to him completely. Those who shorten their hair are below this rank. Hair represents a person’s thoughts and opinions, so shaving or shortening it means submitting to the one for whose sake it was shaved or shortened.

↑ [4] Al-Fath 48:27.

↑ [5] Abd al-Rahim al-Qasir said: One day I was with Abu Jafar (a), and he said, ‘O Abd al-Rahim.’ I said, ‘At your service.’ He said, ‘Regarding the words of Allah, “You are only a warner, and for every people there is a guide,” the Messenger of Allah (s) said: “I am the warner and Ali is the guide.” Who is the guide today?’ He said: I remained silent for a long time, then raised my head and said, ‘May I be made your ransom, it is among you. You inherit it, one man after another, until it came to you. You-may I be made your ransom-are the guide.’ He said, ‘You have spoken the truth, O Abd al-Rahim. Indeed, the Quran is living and does not die, and the verse is living and does not die. If the verse died when the peoples concerning whom it was revealed died, the Quran would have died. Rather, it applies to those who remain just as it applied to those who passed.’ Abd al-Rahim also said: Abu Abdullah (a) said, ‘Indeed, the Quran is living and has not died. It proceeds as night and day proceed and as the sun and moon proceed, and it applies to the last of us just as it applies to the first of us.’ Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 53, p. 403. (Commentator.)
