Question 57
What is the interpretation of the surah: ‘When Allah’s support and the opening come, and you see the people entering Allah’s religion in multitudes, then glorify your Lord with His praise and ask His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever accepting of repentance’ ([16])? Sender: Ibrahim Rughayl
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. I have explained the manifest opening in more than one place in Al-Fatiha and in The Allegories ([17]). I have likewise explained repentance and seeking pardon and forgiveness for the sin that accompanies the page of a created being’s existence, even if he is at the rank of ‘two bow-lengths or nearer.’ This is the ‘I’ and the darkness that the page of a created being must contain, whatever his station may be. Thus the surah is as follows: ‘When Allah’s support and the opening come, then glorify your Lord with His praise and ask His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever accepting of repentance.’ As for His words, the Exalted, ‘And you see the people entering Allah’s religion in multitudes,’ in this corporeal world they concern the people. They are the ones who repent and seek forgiveness for the sin of falling short toward the guardian of Allah and His Proof over His servants. The guardian of Allah also praises Allah and seeks forgiveness for them, and without his seeking forgiveness they are not forgiven: ‘We sent no messenger except that he should be obeyed by Allah’s permission. Had they, when they wronged themselves, come to you and sought Allah’s forgiveness, and the messenger had sought forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah ever accepting of repentance, Merciful’ ([18]). Were it not for Allah’s support and aid, the manifest opening would not be achieved for the messenger. With the manifest opening, the opening in this world must also be achieved, and the people will enter Allah’s religion in multitudes.
