Question 132

Peace be upon you. My brothers, please present my message to Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan. (I am ……) My question is: Have I committed a sin? Will Allah hold me accountable for this matter? I am always sad and distressed and never cease weeping. Please help me. I want to find relief, even for one day. I hope you will not delay your answer. I ask you to supplicate for me.

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. There is neither power nor strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Great, and through Him we seek help. Allah, Glorious is He, is the Great Forgiver of sins and the Concealer of faults. He forgives the sins of those who seek forgiveness and repent, until He causes the recording angels to forget what they wrote. Indeed, He even causes the earth upon which the repentant person sinned to forget the disobedience to Allah committed upon it ([278]). If you have sinned, Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent and forgives those who seek forgiveness ([279]). Indeed, among those most beloved to Allah is the young person who repents from sin. If you have not sinned, Allah recompenses the oppressors and the oppressed, each according to the oppression he committed or that befell him. Do not fear that Allah will wrong you. Remember Allah frequently, and do not let Satan deceive you and lead you into paths far from obedience to Allah, such as suicide or anything that does not please Allah. Know that hearts find reassurance through the remembrance of Allah.

↑ [278] Muawiya ibn Wahb said: I heard Abu Abdullah (a) say: ‘When a servant repents with sincere repentance, Allah loves him and conceals him in this world and the Hereafter.’ I asked, ‘How does He conceal him?’ He said: ‘He makes his two angels forget the sins they recorded against him, reveals to his limbs, “Conceal his sins,” and reveals to the places of the earth, “Conceal the sins he committed upon you.” He then meets Allah with nothing bearing witness against him concerning any sin.’ Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 430. (Commentator.)

↑ [279] Al-Sadiq (a) said: ‘One who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin, while one who persists in sin and seeks forgiveness is like one who mocks.’ Makarim al-Akhlaq by Sheikh al-Tabrisi, p. 313. (Commentator.)
