Question 141
Some object concerning ‘The angels and the Spirit descend in it by their Lord’s permission with every matter,’ saying that it reads ‘from every matter.’ Is ‘with every matter’ a reading, or is it from Imam al-Mahdi-may Allah establish him on the earth?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The correct reading is ‘with every matter.’ This is how the Messenger Muhammad (s) and the Imams after him (a) recited it. If the people do not object to the seven readings, although they differ in many places where the meaning changes with the reading-even though the seven reciters were fallible human beings-then it is more proper for the people to accept the reading reported from the Imams (a), who are the infallible and purified ones. The reading ‘with every matter’ is reported from them (a). Refer to the narrations, recite as Muhammad (s) recited, and pay no heed to the misguidance of those who went astray, for most people do not reason ([283]). Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)

↑ [283] Al-Sakuni said: I heard Abu Jafar (a) say: ‘… There is no house among the houses of the Imams from among us except that within it is an ascent for the angels, because of the words of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: “The angels and the Spirit descend therein by their Lord’s permission with every command. Peace.”’ He said: I asked, ‘From every command?’ He said: ‘With every command.’ I asked, ‘This descent?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ Madinat al-Muajiz by Sayyid Hashim al-Bahrani, vol. 2, p. 449; Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 52, p. 97. Abu Basir narrated from Abu Abdullah (a), who said: ‘The words of the Mighty and Majestic, “Better than a thousand months,” mean the rule of the children of Umayya.’ He said: ‘One night under a just Imam is better than a thousand months under the rule of the children of Umayya.’ He said: ‘“The angels and the Spirit descend therein by their Lord’s permission,” means from their Lord upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad (a), “with every command. Peace.”’ Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 52, p. 96. (Commentator.)
