Question 199
I suffer from a heart condition that restricts extensive movement and any exertion. May I perform the noon prayer during the day on Friday, given that attending the blessed Friday prayer causes me exhaustion? My master and vicegerent (a), is this a religiously valid reason that discharges my obligation before Allah, Glorious is He? Hamid Rashid-Holy Najaf
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Friday prayer is not obligatory upon a sick person whose illness prevents him from attending it. Every person has insight into himself and determines his own condition. If he is unable to attend Friday prayer because of illness, he is excused, and he performs the noon prayer if it becomes clear to him that his illness prevents him from attending Friday prayer. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)
