Question 222

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. Peace be upon the remnant of the family of Muhammad. How did Satan-may Allah curse him-reach the pure Job (a) and touch him? How did the touching occur, and what were the cool washing-place and drink? Is there a connection between the opening verses of Surat Ya-Sin that is specific to a particular group among the Muslim groups? The verse is: ‘It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day; each floats in an orbit’ ([27]). Please shed light on the verses of the Cry in Surat Ya-Sin, the verses: ‘Indeed, He is able to return him, on the day when secrets are tested. Then he will have no strength and no helper. By the sky that returns, and the earth that splits open’ ([28]). Peace be upon the remnant of the family of Muhammad. Convey my greetings to the Sayyid, the Imam (a). Sender: al-Salmani al-Dharri

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. Answer to Question 1: Satan is evil and darkness. Evil can touch the soul and cause its disturbance, such as madness or misguidance, or it can touch the body and physical things and cause their corruption or destruction. What touched Job was of the second kind. It was a test from Allah, Glorious and Exalted, for His servant Job, and a rebuke to the accursed Iblis, who considered Job’s worship and gratitude to be for the sake of interest and benefit, and that when they disappeared, his gratitude would disappear. But despite the destruction of his wealth, the loss of his child, and his illness, Job thanked Allah. Job’s statement after his wealth and child were lost and his body became ill was nothing other than: ‘Naked I came to this world, and naked I return. Thank You, O Lord, for Your justice.’ These words from Job were a victory in the human being’s journey toward perfection, a cool washing-place and a drink containing a cure for every illness in this world, and a spear planted in Satan’s heart that brought the time of his destruction nearer.
