Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. Question 1: A woman died and left a substantial estate. How is this estate distributed, knowing that she has a husband, a mother, and five children-two daughters and three sons? Answer: The husband receives one quarter, the mother one sixth, and the remainder goes to the children, with the male receiving the share of two females. The division is made by dividing the estate into 96 shares: the husband receives 24 shares, the mother 16 shares, each of the three sons 14 shares-14 + 14 + 14-and each daughter 7 shares-7 + 7. Question 2: Is eating tuna-THON-and shrimp-CREVETTE-lawful or unlawful? Answer: Tuna and shrimp are lawful. Question 3: Is it permissible to buy and consume fresh red and white meats sold in Arab countries and in traditional and modern Islamic markets-SUPER MARKET? Answer: Regarding chicken, its source-the validity of its proper slaughter-must be investigated, because many slaughterhouses use an automated blade for slaughter and consider it religiously proper slaughter. Proper slaughter must be performed by the hand of a Muslim, not by a machine. Thus, the presence of chicken and bird meat in Muslim markets cannot be relied upon for its lawfulness unless investigation and inquiry bring reassurance that it was properly slaughtered by hand rather than by machine. As for cattle and sheep, the seller’s statement can suffice if he is a Muslim and his statement brings reassurance that the slaughter was valid. Thus, regarding red meat, or cattle and sheep meat, its presence in Muslim markets can be relied upon for its lawfulness. May Allah reward you with good and magnify your reward on the anniversary of the death of your grandmother, the Mistress of the Women of the Worlds Fatima al-Zahra-may prayers and peace be upon her and her family-and her descendant Ruhollah al-Musawi Khomeini-may Allah sanctify both their secrets. Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we return. Answer: May Allah also reward you with good, magnify your reward, grant you success in the good of the Hereafter and this world, and keep their evil from you. Ahmed Alhasan
