Question 416
‘So take four birds and incline them toward you.’ Everyone takes the word fa-surhunna to mean ‘cut them up.’ One person, however, took it as fa-sayyirhunna ilayk, meaning: treat them well, feed them, and give them drink until they become accustomed to you. He held that reviving the dead here means reviving hearts: ‘You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs,’ and in the sense of, ‘You would have made them hear had you called one alive, but there is no life in the one you call,’ rather than reviving bodies that died, since dead bodies are not resurrected except on the Day of Resurrection or during the Return, whereas many hearts are indeed dead, as we know. The question is about the correct meaning. Sender: Abu Dharr Shawqi - Egypt
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. The Exalted said: ‘And when Abraham said, “My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead.” He said, “Do you not believe?” He said, “Yes, but so that my heart may be reassured.” He said, “Then take four birds, incline them toward you, then place a part of them upon every mountain. Then call them; they will come to you swiftly. And know that Allah is Mighty, Wise”’ ([18]). The birds were four and the mountains were ten. May Allah grant you success in every good. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Late Safar 1431 AH
