Question 445

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. What is the ruling on eating, drinking, or smoking the cannabis plant-marijuana? Please present the question to Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan-may Allah preserve him. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Sender: Ali - United Arab Emirates

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. It is not permissible to eat, drink, or smoke the narcotic substance extracted from the cannabis plant, because it is a narcotic substance that causes intoxication. It may, however, be used in medicine for therapeutic purposes. Ahmed Alhasan Jumada al-Awwal 1431 AH
