Question 448
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. I ask Allah that you and those you love are well and in good health. Around 1980 I owed a person 120 Iraqi dinars. He then died in the war at that time. I knew no relatives of his, and I do not now know how to discharge my liability for this amount or how to pay it, since it now has no value. Please do not forget us in your blessed supplication. Sender: Abu Nazim - Iraq
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. If he has heirs whom you know, you must give it to them. If he has no heirs, or you do not know them, then give it in charity on his behalf to needy believers. As for the amount, assess its value at the present time. For example, determine how much that amount was equivalent to in a stable currency or in gold at that time, and assess its value now. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Jumada al-Awwal 1431 AH
